Explaining motion with forces

Assessment focuses: AF1, AF3

Pupils had already learnt about the use of arrows to represent balanced and unbalanced forces in a variety of contexts, including cycling, floating and flight. They then applied their understanding to analyse and predict the behaviour of objects accelerating, travelling at constant velocity or remaining stationary. They were asked to present their ideas about the effects of forces as ‘posters’. They were encouraged to use the terms acceleration, deceleration, balanced and unbalanced.

Pupil E used her mobile phone to take a picture of a toy vehicle, and printed out several copies. She cut out arrows to represent forces of different sizes and combined these in her poster.
