Six-week improvement plan

Download the Element 4: Example six-week improvement plan (DOC-54 KB) Attachments to see what actions your mathematics department could take to make measurable progress towards the quality standards.

You can adapt the plan to help your department address its own issues on intervention. This is followed by a review process that will help provide feedback to the senior leadership team on progress and outcomes.

Issues to overcome

Schools have found that this approach addresses a range of intervention issues identified by their mathematics department. These issues include:

  • significant numbers of pupils not making the expected rates of progress over each key stage
  • pupils not reaching expected levels despite following additional programmes of support for mathematics
  • missing opportunities to identify and address pupils’ skills and barriers to their learning
  • having a limited range of intervention support available for pupils who are struggling to make progress in mathematics, or provision that is insufficiently linked to Wave 1 teaching in mathematics lessons.
