Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities – further information

This document provides schools with a brief background to the history and culture of Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller communities. However, while it is important to understand the history and culture of each of these groups in order to appreciate more fully who the pupils are, it is simplistic to define the pupils by this information alone. Like all pupils their identities are based on experiences and a wide range of influences, which may vary not only from the settled population but also from others within the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities.
