On 11 March 2011, the Secretary of State for Education announced the details of a Review of Teachers’ Standards. The first report of the Review was published on 14 July 2011 and ministers have accepted the Review’s recommendations for a new set of standards, which will set the minimum requirements for teachers’ practice and conduct. This section contains information about the Review, including links to key documents such as the new standards for teachers, the Review’s terms of reference, and reports, as well as information about the Teachers’ Standards Review Group and frequently asked questions and answers.
The existing professional standards continue to apply until the new standards for teachers become effective on 1 September 2012. The second phase of the Review is considering the remaining standards – Threshold, Excellent Teacher and Advanced Skills Teacher.
