Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy

This course is divided into two levels. Both use videos of children and practitioners to illustrate Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy in everyday early years practice. The first level includes a case study of a practitioner improving opportunities for PSRN in the learning environment. The second level illustrates how practitioners can interact with children to make a difference to their PSRN learning and development.

If you answer yes to the following questions you may like to move straight onto level 2:

• are you familiar with the EYFS practice guidance for PSRN
• are you reasonably confident in planning for, recognising and supporting children's development of the three aspects of PSRN
• are you able to evaluate your observations of children involved in PSRN and plan for their next steps
• have you added mathematical components to your provision indoors and out?

Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy 1

This level increases understanding about each aspect of PSRN and supports practitioners in developing a learning environment full of opportunities for developing PSRN.

Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy – essential knowledge 2

This level increases understanding about each aspect of PSRN and hones practitioner skills in supporting children's developing learning of PSRN.
