The latest national statistics on the Activities and Experiences of 18 year olds in England produced by the Department for Education were released on 22 July 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.
This is the third in a series of publications using two large DFE surveys, the LSYPE and YCS. The first publication 'Youth Cohort Study & Longitudinal Study of Young People in England: The Activities and Experiences of 16 year olds: England 2007' was published in June 2008 and covered the period 2004 to 2007. This series continued with the June 2009 publication of 'Youth Cohort Study & Longitudinal Study of Young People in England: The Activities and Experiences of 17 year olds: England 2008' updating on the next year of cohort's lives. This publication follows the young people for a further year when they were 18 and also updates a regular series of Statistical First Releases (SFRs) which has, since 1985, been based on the YCS.
This publication brings together detailed survey information on family environment, attitudes and behaviours, further and higher education, employment and post-16 participation with administrative data on academic attainment. Data from previous waves of LSYPE and YCS, in some cases going back to when the young people were in compulsory education, are used to inform outcomes from the 2009 survey when the young people were of academic age 18.
