Secondary SMS

Secondary Stronger Management Systems (SMS) is a set of school improvement materials that can help secondary schools develop more effective management systems and processes. The five elements of Secondary SMS can support your cycle of school self-evaluation and can help you:

  • identify improvement priorities
  • identify key actions to deliver change
  • review the impact on outcomes for all learners.

Audience

The materials can be used by:

  • headteachers
  • senior leaders
  • school improvement professionals.

Structure

Secondary SMS is based on a quality management framework. It supports self-assessment that is related to key elements of effective school improvement.

Each element contains:

  • an introduction to explain its relevance and importance
  • Quality Standards to support self-assessment, help your school clarify what it does well and identify possible next steps for improvement
  • exemplification showing what good practice looks like in relation to the element, including examples of materials, templates and processes
  • professional development activities to help your school achieve the Quality Standards.
