Science teaching unit – an introduction to light and vision
This teaching sequence is designed for the early part of Key Stage 3. The aim is for pupils to develop a meaningful understanding of ideas relating to light and vision, using ray diagrams.
-
Science teaching unit – explaining change processes using a simple particle model of matter
This teaching sequence is designed for Key Stage 3. The aim is for pupils to develop an understanding of a scientific model to describe and explain the properties of matter during physical and chemical change processes, and to be able to use that model to explain change processes.
-
Science teaching unit – explaining how electric circuits work
This teaching sequence is designed for the early part of Key Stage 3. The aim is for pupils to develop a meaningful understanding of a scientific model so that they are able to explain the working of electric circuits and can apply their knowledge to a range of simple series and parallel circuits.
-
Science teaching unit – force and motion
This teaching sequence is designed for Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4. The aim is for pupils to review and refine their ideas about forces from Key Stage 3, to develop a meaningful understanding of ways of representing motion (graphically and through calculation) and to make the links between different kinds of motion and forces acting.
-
Science teaching unit – plant nutrition
This teaching sequence is designed for Key Stage 3. The aim is for pupils to develop a simple and coherent understanding of plant nutrition, including the process of photosynthesis.
-
Science teaching unit – voltage, energy and power in electric circuits
This teaching sequence bridges Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4. The aim is for pupils to review their ideas and understanding about electric circuits from Key Stage 3 and to develop a meaningful understanding of the concepts of voltage and power, and in particular how they relate to ideas about energy.
