This evidence of a pupil's work in writing and the teacher's assessment exemplifies the level judgement of a pupil working at low level 6 in Year 8.
Task 5
Assessment commentary
Specific setting out of a letter format was not needed within the task, which essentially demanded some anecdotal evidence involving the friend who was being recommended. In terms of the requirement, therefore, this response fulfils its purpose quite effectively. There is some imaginative treatment of the chosen material, achieving a relaxed tone with a controlled mixture of formal phrasing to describe situations and informal speech to enliven recount of events (AF1/2). There is some signalling of the direction of the text through links between paragraphs and an appropriate ending (AF3) and the construction of paragraphs contributes to the overall effectiveness and purpose of the response (AF4). A range of sentence structures is confidently deployed (AF5) and these are supported by accurate syntax and punctuation (AF6). The convincing individual voice of the writer is mainly established through the choice of some vivid descriptive phrases, again, appropriate to and supporting form and purpose (AF7). There are no spelling mistakes (AF8).
With the exception of AF3, there is evidence of some of the level 6 criteria being fulfilled across all the other assessment focuses.
