National Programme for Specialist Leaders in Behaviour and Attendance (NPSLBA)

Introduction to the programme

The NPSLBA is based on a model of effective learning which follows five stages:

  • Acquisition of knowledge
  • Modelling of good practice
  • Practice application
  • Feedback and reflection
  • Embedding the experience

Key features of the programme

Emphasis is on exploring the relationship between theory – considered in the study days and cluster sessions – and practice – carried out in the work based activities. This process has proved to be a significant factor in driving change. To achieve impact, the support of colleagues in the workplace is crucial, but the best practice always includes the following elements:

  • An understanding of the main benefits of the programme by the host organisation.
  • Dialogue between participant and line manager or senior colleague to agree workplace activities.
  • Time to attend the study days, undertake cluster group work and work place activities.
