Assessment commentary

The scope of this task is quite extensive, and, again, there is a detailed and close engagement with the chosen texts. The focus of attention is the structure, organisation, purpose and impact of two media texts – fruitful areas to explore in terms of the material concerned, although aspects of language are much less central. A range of features from both programmes are compared and analysed, with some appreciation of the effectiveness with which the material is organised to support the purpose and of the presentational devices used (AF4). Comments are consistently linked to the ways in which the various techniques contribute to the overall effect of the programmes and the ways they impact upon their intended audiences (AF6). Throughout the response, references to aspects of both programmes show confident control of ‘textual material’ in matching it pertinently to comment (AF2). For these three AFs, there is evidence of the fulfilment of some of the level 7 criteria.
