Building comprehension skills

Over the course of Key Stages 3 and 4, pupils are expected to read a rich variety of print, electronic and multi-modal texts. To become skilled readers they need to build their comprehension skills in order to understand and respond to the ideas, viewpoints, themes and purposes of these texts. The teaching approaches and learning opportunities outlined in the following sections might help them get started in the process of improving these skills.
