Terms explained

An immigration service lets you apply to enter or remain in the UK. The types of service we provide include visas, residency, settlement and citizenship. Each service has an application form based on a set of rules defined by UK immigration law. Most services provide a formal printed document such as a vignette or a certificate.
UK Border Agency
The UK Border Agency is responsible for securing the UK border and controlling migration in the UK. We manage border control for the UK, enforcing immigration and customs regulations. We also consider applications for permission to enter or stay in the UK, and for citizenship and asylum.
