No notice inspections proposed as Ofsted puts the child’s experience at the heart of local children’s service inspection

Today, Ofsted launches a consultation on changes to the inspection of local authority children’s services. The proposals focus on the child’s journey as a key element in the inspection of child protection and for children in care. Through inspection, the changes aim to improve the services children receive and how these impact on their lives.

Ofsted to trial spot checks on schools with behaviour problems

This autumn, Ofsted will trial some unannounced monitoring visits of satisfactory schools where behaviour is a weakness. The trial will help determine whether unannounced visits are workable and give a clearer picture of behaviour in schools. The results will inform our future monitoring visits to schools where there is a significant need to improve behaviour.

Children at risk of exclusion helped by nurture groups

Nurture groups can make a considerable difference to the behaviour and social skills of children who might otherwise be at risk of exclusion according to a new report from Ofsted. However, schools should ensure that pupils in these groups are making academic as well as social and emotional progress.
