There are many benefits associated with both applying for and achieving Certification against the Standard. The specific benefits will depend on whether you are a department providing training to local authority employees and applying for Certification against the Training Quality Standard for Employers, or a department providing training to external organisations and applying for Certification against the Training Quality Standard.

What are the additional benefits to local authorities?

Application for the Standard will help your local authority by:

• Streamlining and testing employer-facing processes: you may have traditionally been more involved in providing training to the community, so you may find the Training Quality Standard useful as a development tool to help you to develop your strategy for working with employers, and embed processes and procedures that help you to be an employer responsive provider
• Providing you with a detailed Feedback Report on your performance that highlights your strengths and areas for improvement. This will allow you to build upon areas of good practice and improve areas that aren’t so good
• Providing you the opportunity to apply learning from the experience to other directorates and departments within the local authority.

Certification will help your local authority by:

• Raising and enhancing the profile of the local authority by making potential customers more aware of your training offer. This can be said for achievement of the:

1. Training Quality Standard for Employers, whereby employees become more aware of the training function’s services, and your corporate customer recognises the impact that the training function is having on the wider local authority.
2. Training Quality Standard, whereby employers become more aware that you can supply them with high impact training and development solutions.

• Raising awareness of performance within the local authority; this can be said for achievement of both versions of the Standard. Making other departments aware of areas of good practice can help to improve processes and procedures across the local authority
• Providing you with a marketing opportunity. This will differ dependent upon which version of the Standard you achieve Certification against:

1. The Training Quality Standard will help you to compete with other training providers. In fact, training providers who achieve the Training Quality Standard will be listed as recommended training providers in The Employer’s Guide to Training, which is a database that helps employers find suitable training providers
