Buying Solutions

Buying Solutions is the national procurement partner for UK public services and moved into the Cabinet Office in June 2010.

We have a unique business model which means that we are funded by the private sector to deliver savings for the public sector.

We differ from our other new family members in the Efficiency and Reform Group (ERG) in that we run on a commercial basis. We generate income to cover our costs through a small supplier commission, operating at no cost to the taxpayer. Over the past five years we have paid HM Treasury over £8 million in dividends. From an organisational structure perspective we are now an Executive Agency of the Cabinet Office.

We deliver procurement solutions for nationally sourced commodity goods and services to customers in both central government and the wider public sector, helping them to maximise value for money.

Centralising commodity spend for government is one of our major priorities. This includes bringing together requirements for departments and their arms length bodies; going to the supplier markets in a coordinated way to leverage our buying power and helping to simplify how we interact with suppliers thereby cutting costs. In addition we continue to support our wider public sector customers to give them one route to market and dramatically cut their costs.

Health remains a strategic customer for Buying Solutions and we are the main commodities buying organisation for the NHS.
