Brief Description

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Head of Discovery Development, you will be responsible for collecting, understanding, and transmitting the business requirements, and translating these into use cases, functional specifications and detailed test plans. Primarily you will be working on the Discovery Service. The role will involve working with our business representatives to translate their requirements for the system developers and web designers to use to develop their elements.

Role and Responsibilities:

Specific areas of responsibility:
• Having both a broad and in-depth understanding and working knowledge of Business Information Architecture and Service Orientated Architecture in order to ensure joined-up approaches to technical solutions
• Translating business requirements into use cases and functional specifications and communicating these back to non-technical business audiences
• Translating in-depth records knowledge and expertise into meaningful technical specifications in order for technical teams to deliver business solutions
• Analyzing and documenting business processes and workflows along the results of business analysis within source control tool
• Managing and logging reported bugs and issues within source control tool
• Managing, designing and executing detailed test plans, including test scenarios and test scripts
• Day to day management of change requests in relation to the product development to ensure agreed deadlines are met.
• Producing regular reports for product owner showing progress against outstanding issues, risks and development milestones
• Carrying out other related tasks as required, including running business workshops and presenting findings to the business



• Demonstrable experience of gathering detailed user requirements and producing clear technical documented specifications
• Demonstrable experience and track record of systems analysis using a formal methodology, such as UML, and analytical skills such as data modeling
• Deep understanding and strong track record of working on complex web applications with extensive business processes and technical infrastructures
• In-depth knowledge of test driven/Agile development and unit/integration/acceptance testing
• Good understanding of Source Control Tools such as Microsoft Visual SourceSafe
• Ability to work in a team or on own initiative and to very tight deadlines
• Energy and enthusiasm and a willingness to tackle new tasks
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; interacting with a range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels, both technical and non-technical, adjusting style and approach as needed
• Methodical and meticulous approach to work


• An understanding of basic ASP.NET 3.5, 2.0 and 1.1 Web Forms in C# using MS Visual Studio 2008
• An understanding of basic Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008
