Brief Description

To manage the delivery of the forest civil engineering roading programme for the Argyll & Lochaber Operations area on time and to agreed budgets.

Vacancy description

Managing People

Manage Argyll Area civil engineering staff and encourage training & self-development of staff

Technical & Professional Services

Provide technical & construction advice & cost estimates for proposed civil engineering projects

Carry out Quarry Manager duties for all quarrying operations in area; carry out Designer, CDM-C & Principal Contractor duties as required on civil engineering projects

Managing Programme and Budget

Manage the delivery of the Argyll Operations Area roads programme, on-time & to budget

Monitor cash flow & provide progress reports

Prepare & manage civil engineering contracts & procure in line with Forestry Commission policy

Contribute to Business Plans for area

Controlling Resources

Control cash, contractor and staff resources

Check designs are appropriate and “fit for purpose”

Training & Development

Carry out 5 days CPD per year


Professional & Technical Expertise


Minimum HND in Civil Engineering or other relevant discipline

Corporate membership (CEng or IEng) of The Institution of Civil Engineers or other relevant professional engineering body or nearing the same


Degree in Civil Engineering

QCF/NVQ Level 4 in SH&E management in extractive & mineral processing industries




Comprehensive and relevant civil engineering experience with particular reference to successful project delivery in the rural forest environment.
