Brief Description

The Met Office aims to ensure all our services are providing the best value for money that they can. Our outcome focused approach to business planning and performance means that we need to be able to robustly demonstrate improvements in our performance in terms which our customers and stakeholders understand and value.

To provide comparative evidence for Met Office performance against other organisations to drive business improvement and performance, with particular focus on demonstrating the value of our services.'

Vacancy description

To conduct analysis (financial and non-financial), prepare and report on statements and measures relating to the value for money that the Met Office provides at both corporate and market sector level.
To run and conduct analysis (financial and non-financial) on Met Office performance against other National Met Services to ensure that the organisation understands how it is performing in comparison with others.
To make recommendations to the Met Office Executive on areas of business improvement based on effective, robust external comparative analysis.
To build relationships with internal and external colleagues to gather relevant information for benchmarking and value for money purposes and to ensure that comparative analysis is robust.
To provide benchmarking and value for money analysis as input to business planning and strategy.
To set-up, co-ordinate and review value for money studies conducted by external organisations.


Ability to analyse large amounts of complex information and to draw conclusions based on plausible assumptions which are measurable.
Economics degree 2:1 (BA or BSc) or equivalent.
Proven track record of delivery of the public sector value for money approaches.
Ability to translate complex analysis into plain English and communicate limitations of management information effectively.
Ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
A strong ability to manage time effectively, work independently and at pace to tight deadlines.
