Sustainable travel and environment
This section describes the Department’s work to promote initiatives that can reduce congestion, improve local environments and encourage healthier and safer lifestyles. Many of these initiatives are part of the broader cross government agenda for Creating Safer Greener Communities.
Act on CO2
All cars on the road today contribute to climate change because their engines burn fuel and, therefore, produce carbon dioxide (CO2).
Yet you can easily reduce CO2 emissions and save money too.
- Greener cars and driving
- Fuel consumption information and CO2 emissions data for new, and some used cars
The Act on CO2 ‘Top 10 Best in Class’ car CO2 comparison tool is being reviewed and is not available at this time.
Biofuels are fossil fuel substitutes. Blended into fossil fuels in small proportions, bioethanol and biodiesel can be safely used in today’s road vehicles.
