Local authorities

DfT works with local authorities to provide safe, sustainable, and equitable access to jobs and services. Local authorities are central to integrating local transport with other regional and local policies and services, including education, health and economic development.

Up until March 2011, the Government Office Network was responsible for carrying out a range of statutory transport casework on behalf of the Secretary of State for Transport. This work involved processing and confirming a selection of transport orders, in line with Government legislation.

From March 2011 onwards, statutory transport casework will be undertaken by a dedicated team within the Department for Transport. New national transport casework content will be added here as it becomes available.
