Freedom of information and whistleblowing

Freedom of Information and Environmental Information Regulations

The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act 2000 gives people the right to request recorded information held by public authorities. The Office of the RFA, as a Non-Departmental Public Body, qualifies as a public authority.

FOI is designed to help people get a better understanding of how public authorities carry out their duties and make decisions. Environmental information is a special case, and the right to access environmental information held by the RFA is determined by the Environmental Information Regulations. More information about both FOI and EIR is available from the Information Commissioner's Office website.

FOI/EIR Requests

If you would like to make an FOI or EIR request please email us at We will always treat requests under the appropriate piece of legislation, as determined by the nature of the information.

This policy applies to external whistleblowers (individuals who do not work for the Office of the Renewable Fuels Agency) who wish to disclose certain information to the Office of the Renewable Fuels Agency about the activities of companies or individuals that report under the RTFO.

The Office of the Renewable Fuels Agency treats all disclosures made through the whistleblowing policy in a confidential and sensitive manner.
