People's lives and advocacy
Valuing People Now says that people with learning disabilities should be treated as equal citizens with support to lead fulfilling lives.
This means having the same opportunities as everyone else, and the support to be active citizens.
People with learning disabilities want to:
- Make friends and have relationships
- Get married and have children
- Take part in community activities and vote
- Life in safety, free from fear of Hate Crime
- Enjoy local leisure services
- Use public transport easily and safely
- Know how to get support when they are victims of crime
- Use local advocacy services or join a local self advocacy group
