Getting a paid job
This section of the website describes the work the government is doing to increase employmentoutcomes for people with learning disabilities. The government wants to make sure that people with learning disabilities are supported to get real paid jobs and to keep them.
There are so few people with learning disabilities who work and there is no expectation from others that they can. Because of this, little is done to offer them the opportunity. Employment levels for people with learning disabilities remains very low, with less than 10% of people known to services in paid work and very few of them are working more than a few hours a week.
People with learning disabilities want to lead ordinary lives and do the things that most people take for granted, and this includes, getting a paid job and the other benefits of having a job, like making new friends.
The Valuing People Now employment team has also come across amazing hard working people with learning disabilities within their Demonstration sites
