Aids to Navigation

Trinity House Aids to Navigation help thousands of mariners annually to navigate their way safely around the busy waters of the United Kingdom, including the Dover Strait - the busiest shipping lane in the world. Our lighthouses, buoys, lightvessels and beacons together with electronic Aids to Navigation assist all mariners at all times and in all weathers.

It is generally accepted that more than 90 per cent of global trade is carried by sea and so it is not difficult to see why such high importance is placed on Aids to Navigation availability standards. Trinity House adheres to Minimum Availability Targets based on International guidelines laid down by the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA)
