Win a ride with the newly restored Flying Scotsman
The legendary Flying Scotsman will be back in steam this year after a huge overhaul. In celebration of her return to the National Railway Museum, one lucky winner will be one of the first passengers to ride behind the newly restored locomotive.
For your chance to win this once-in-a-lifetime prize, simply make a model of Flying Scotsman out of anything you choose – clay, wood, candy floss, Lego, pipe cleaners, monkey nuts, anything – and send it to us. The most impressive, creative models in the eyes of our judges will be shortlisted to win this amazing prize.
The prize
The winner, along with a friend or family member, will get to ride in a carriage pulled behind Flying Scotsman on one of her first journeys – a return passenger trip from York, just a few days after it's given its final coat of paint. You'll be a VIP among a select group of invited media, making you one of the very first to ride behind the restored Flying Scotsman.
And that’s not all. The winner will also receive a Hornby Flying Scotsman model railway set and a bumper pack of Flying Scotsman merchandise.
How to enter
It’s simple: make us a model of Flying Scotsman out of any material you like. It must be no bigger than 120cm long x 40cm high x 60cm wide, and it must be sent to us at the National Railway Museum before 28 April 2011. You can be any age. Please ensure you download the entry form (PDF, 420Kb) and attach it to or send it with your entry.
Send your model (remembering to include the entry form) to:

We can only accept one entry per person. We are unable to return models after the competition but will be happy to arrange collection with you. If your entry cannot be posted, please email competitions@nrm.org.uk for guidance. Further terms and conditions apply.
What's next?
We've set up a dedicated Flying Scotsman models blog where we'll be showing the best models as they come in. In May, we'll display a shortlist of finalists at the Museum, comprising the very best models (judged on creativity and quality of work). The public will then have the opportunity to vote for their favourite before the winner is announced in June. Best of luck!
