Complaints

Complaints

We're here to help

If you think an organisation has failed to comply with the legislation we regulate, we may be able to help. This section will tell you the types of complaints we deal with and how to complain to us. It also explains how you can expect us to handle your complaint, and how to complain or compliment us about our service.

.

Data Protection – when and how to complain

The Data Protection Act sets rules about the way organisations collect and use information about you (your personal information). If you have a complaint about the way an organisation has handled your personal information – perhaps they hold information about you that’s wrong and they won’t correct it, or you’ve asked for the information they hold about you and they’ve not provided it – we may be able to help.

Privacy and Electronic Communications – when and how to complain

If you have a complaint about privacy and electronic communications – for example, you're receiving telephone marketing calls despite being registered with the Telephone Preference Service – we may be able to help.

Freedom of Information – when and how to complain

The Freedom of Information Act gives you the right to ask for official information from public authorities. If you have a complaint about freedom of information – maybe a public authority has refused to provide you with information you think you're entitled to – we may be able to help.

Environmental Information Regulations – when and how to complain

If you want to make a complaint about an issue that’s covered by the Environmental Information Regulations – that is, information about the environment that’s held by a public body – we might be able to help. This section will tell you what we can investigate, what you should tell us and the possible outcomes you can expect.
