The Data Protection Act sets rules about the way organisations collect and use information about you (your personal information). If you have a complaint about the way an organisation has handled your personal information – perhaps they hold information about you that’s wrong and they won’t correct it, or you’ve asked for the information they hold about you and they’ve not provided it – we may be able to help.
If you have a complaint about privacy and electronic communications – for example, you're receiving telephone marketing calls despite being registered with the Telephone Preference Service – we may be able to help.
The Freedom of Information Act gives you the right to ask for official information from public authorities. If you have a complaint about freedom of information – maybe a public authority has refused to provide you with information you think you're entitled to – we may be able to help.
If you want to make a complaint about an issue that’s covered by the Environmental Information Regulations – that is, information about the environment that’s held by a public body – we might be able to help. This section will tell you what we can investigate, what you should tell us and the possible outcomes you can expect.
