Scheme of the Month - Grand Arcade Cycle Park, Cambridge

The Grand Arcade indoor cycle park, located in Cambridge City Centre, has covered cycle parking spaces for over 200 bicycles. In addition the cycle shop run by Station Cycles, which is based inside the cycle park, offers over 200 valet cycle parking spaces on a daily or long term basis. Luggage lockers are also available from the shop. A free pushchair lending scheme initiated by Cambridge City Council and run by Station Cycles is available for parents cycling with young children whereby they can borrow a pushchair for free once they have park their bicycle helping them continue their journey.

The Grand Arcade indoor cycle park was built as part of the larger Grand Arcade shopping centre development with the specifications for the cycle park and cycle shop being determined as part of the planning process.

grand_arcade_cambridgeA Cycle Park User Group attended by Cambridge City Council, Cambridge Cycle Campaign, Station Cycles and Grand Arcade Management has been established as part of the planning agreement providing an opportunity to raise issues and agree on improvements that can be realistically made. The aims of the group being to:

1. Ensure the Cycle Park and Cycle Shop operate effectively, enabling ease of use and hence promote cycling within the City.

2. Promote the Cycle Park

3. Share information

Overall the Cycle Park has be a success and is very well used.
