Senior Offshore Transmission Engineering Advisor, DECC
£46,975 – £56,597 a year with pensionable engineering allowance of £5,870

This is your chance to shape a high profile, £20 billion infrastructure project.
A talented power engineer, you will advise ministers and senior officials on the strategic engineering and technical issues relating to the development of the GB offshore network. You’ll lead on identifying the type of network configuration, coordination and interoperability to be incentivised through regulation, contribute to the evolution of an EU Supergrid and identify supply chain barriers and solutions.
We’re looking for a power engineer with an electrical engineering degree and chartered membership of the IET or equivalents. Strong communication and strategy skills will be essential. Whether you have experience of offshore transmission design, construction or operation, or transferable onshore knowledge, you will be keen to leave a long and lasting legacy.
Vacancy description
You will advise ministers and senior officials on engineering and technical issues for the successful delivery of over £20 billion of offshore electricity transmission infrastructure investment necessary to meet UK carbon and energy security objectives.
You will be a key member of the DECC Future Electricity Networks (FEN) team. You will lead for DECC in identifying the type of offshore network configuration, phasing, standardisation and interoperability to be incentivised through regulation.
You will play an active role in the evolution of an EU Supergrid. You will also lead a project to identify potential offshore transmission supply chain barriers and solutions.
We’re looking for someone with the credibility, and strategy and communication skills, to build relationships and consensus with our key delivery partners and stakeholders, including Ofgem, National Grid, the Crown Estate, offshore generators, and transmission owners.
Skills
Essential:
Experience of offshore transmission design, construction or operation, or transferable onshore knowledge.
Desirable:
Experience of dealing with related regulatory and planning issues; familiarity with the energy market, economic regulation and renewable energy technologies.
Qualifications
A power engineer with an electrical engineering degree or equivalent qualification, you will have chartered membership of a relevant professional body such as the IET.
