Brief Description

The setting up and configuration of print finishing equipment to produce print finished paper products to the correct specification delivering products for sale to UKHO customers .
Duplication of Digital products using CD Replication equipment operating Windows software to apply label images to the CD disc, supplying finished CDs in the relevant packaging to daily delivery targets.
Creation of Digital printed charts operating large format Ink Jet equipment , folding and labelling printed charts to the correct specification and detail using Ink jet labelling equipment operating Windows bespoke software amending labelling details.
The post requires knowledge and experience in print finishing, operating skills on a wide range of equipment to interpret written instructions or finished example, set and operate finishing equipment to convert printed sheets and digital products to the finished article.

To deputise in the line manager’s absence with responsibility for the Finishing Section’s daily operation informing the Production Manager of any problems.
 

This post operates on an alternating daytime shift pattern - Early Shift: Mon 06.30 hrs - 13.30 hrs, Tues to Thurs 06.00 hrs - 13.30 hrs and Fri 06.00 hrs - 13.00 hrs. Late Shift: Mon to Thurs 13.00 hrs- 21.00 hrs and Fri 12.30 hrs to 18.00 hrs, these shift patters include a 20 minute break.

Vacancy description

Ability and skill to set up and operate chart and book folders, binding lines, guillotines, collating machines, hand drills and stitchers. Operation of ink jet computer systems software amending and inserting control information to be applied using bar code identification labels.
Use SAP PP transactions to collect process information and record work completed in to SAP, check product details against digital record held in SAP.
Knowledge and skills to take any part finished components consolidating them in to a finished product that meets the specification and to UKHO quality standards. Applying hand folding, counting, manual collation , manual labelling and manual insertion
Operate CD labelling and replication equipment copying digital CD masters applying label images to CDs, inserting in to correct packaging appropriate to the product specification. Operating Windows and bespoke labelling software to apply images to CD disc.
Deputise in rotation in team managers absence Planning daily activities in work area allocating work to staff and controlling outputs to deliver days work on time and in full.
 

Skills

Essential:
The ability to work to deadlines, deliver daily output as an individual or part of a production team when more then one process is involved,
Knowledge and skills to set up and operate Print Finishing equipment such as, chart folders, stitcher trimmers, binding lines and guillotines.
Ability to set up production machines to produce the product from written instructions or previous copies.
Ability to manually handle printed sheets as a regular part of daily operations and stand for the majority of the working day
Basic PC skills to be able to operate bespoke equipment software, inputting information to achieve changes and to record productivity and job completion in to SAP .

Desirable:
Experience of working alternating day shift patterns
Print problem solving knowledge.
Problem solving on Print Finishing equipment
Experience of hand operations associated with print finishing
Paper handling skills ability to knock up sheets and load machines with neat stacks.


 

Experience


The person will be familiar with working in a production factory environment , operating Large Equipment as an individual and part of a team. You will be confident when operating equipment and be able to work under your own initiative. You will relish the daily challenge of producing quality product , delivering work to tight time lines. You will have an eye for detail and take a pride in the product you produce. The work is physically demanding in that you will be moving materials and standing for long periods during the working day .
