In June, I finally made it to my GP's surgery. The pain in my right side had become almost unbearable. I say my right side, but it was more along the bottom edge of my ribs and under my arm into my chest. I had lived with the murmurings of this pain for about a month before making the appointment, but in the early hours of the morning in June, about...

Hi, I'm a newbie here. I’m 39 and a wife and mum of two young children. About this time last year, Sept 2009, I ‘came down’ with what I and others thought was a virus. In the next few weeks I began to get trouble with my wrist and some rather strange pins and needle sensations. I went to my GP who was extremely ‘on-the-ball’...

The Dosulepin reduction was going well .... ish. Then came the Venlafaxine. That didn't go quite so well. Four tablets later I was seated in the surgery trying to focus enough remember my name and why I had made the appointment. 'Persevere', said my GP. 'Trust me'. Hmmm! That conversation, as far as I can remember it through the...

I have now had 4 injections, how time flies! I am due my 5th tomorrow. My joints seem to be much better, I am moving better and less achy. The rest of me is not so great at the moment but I am getting there. I think I am struggling a bit with the steroid withdrawal. I am not off them completely but have been reducing them by 2.5mg a week, I am now down...

Hello all. I have now had 2 enbrel injections. I think I am improving (trying not to get over excited too soon). My hands seems to move more freely and I can almost see a knee cap! I haven't seen my knee caps in a long time but I can definitely see a difference in my right knee. The best part for me is that so far I have managed to reduce my steroids...

Now I am not sure if it was writing my blog and reading it back and taking stock that did it, or if I just couldn't take anymore fatigue but I made a decision last week to temporarily reduce my hours at work. Last week I woke up on Monday feeling like I had already done a weeks work. I went in to work and broke down to some of my friends/ colleagues...

Last week my colleague and I 'fell out' - actually that's not entirely true, she was angry with me and for what I am still not truly sure why, but that's a whole other story which will be being dealt with 'officially'. During part of the 'dressing down' I was told that when I came in to work in the mornings I looked miserable...

On my first visit to Wrightington Hosptial near Wigan, back in 1987, I was pleasantly surprised at the beautiful setting. Bought by Lancashire County Council in 1918 as a Tuberculosis hospital, following the Astor Report of 1913 which recommended opening sanatoria for the treatment of TB, 13 th century Wrightington Hall and estate built by the Wrightington...

I have been on steroids and NSAIDs since I was diagnosed. To begin with I was on an awful lot of steroids, especially considering I was just a kid, but over the years I got them down to around 5mg for a few years, that then crept up to 7.5mg and now I am taking 15-20mg and having steroid depot injections on top of that. Until now, steroids had always...

This is my first ever attempt at a blog - I only just learnt what a blog was! My name is Kerry and I am married to Matt, he is known better as Flair to his friends, we have been married for 10 months now. We have 2 cats called Gizmo and Rizla. I was diagnosed with Stills Disease / Juvenile Chronic arthritis when I was 9, I am now 34. Somewhere along...

It's been about 6 weeks since my last blog and really there hasn't been much to say. I had a follow up appointment with my rheumatology nurse today and she's really pleased with my progress. My most recent blood test shows my ESR has fallen right down to 10 and the liver fubction is within the normal range. The infamatory markers have fallen...

It's a while since my last post and that's partly because I didn't have a great deal to say and partly because I was busy trying to get my life in order. I now feel as though I'm making some progress. I mentioned previously that I had been medically retired from my job and, at the age of 53, that wasn't really in my plans. Aside...

Hi everyone; hope you're all coping with the cold weather. Since my last blog I've decided it's time for a holiday so am off on pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Most of my friends are a little bemused that having been told Africa was too dangerous for me (because I can't have the recommended vaccinations) that I find Israel a safe bet: but...

Happy New Year to you all. Last time I was saying how much I don't like New Year's Eve. Well, this year I liked it even less. The day before the big day I went in to work to clear my office, which was pretty tough both physically and emotionally. So, I was planning a nice lazy day to recover - but woke up with the worst migraine I've had...

Well it has been a few weeks sinceI have posted so I thought I would just leave a quick update and wish you all a Merry Christmas! I am now 3 methotrexate injections along, and despite the anticipated terror I am now happily doing them myself with no problems(so far!) No improvement yet but I am hopeful. One side effectI had been having was a mouth full...
