The Local Government Finance Directorate is responsible for maintaining and developing a framework for local government finance which meets HM Treasury macroeconomic and fiscal policy requirements, and supports local engagement and flexibility, and the delivery of shared government objectives. It is also responsible for advising Ministers on all aspects of local government finance policy and legislation.
This section contains information useful for local government finance officers but will also be of interest to members of the public, businesses and researchers/analysts.
The final 2011-12 and provisional 2012-13 formula grant settlements were announced on 31 January 2011 and the Local Government Finance settlement for 2011-12 was approved by the House of Commons on 9 February 2011. Information on the Revenue Support Grant settlements can be found on a separate website (see link on the right).
The Government has published details of the £1.166bn Local Government contribution to the £6.2bn cross government savings in 2010-11 needed to tackle the UK's record deficit in order to restore confidence in the economy and support the recovery.
The information listed in the documents and tables in the related documents below set out the basis on which the Government will implement reductions to individual local authority grant allocations, as announced in a Written Ministerial Statement made by the Secretary of Statement on 10 June 2010.
