The Department for Transport's (DfT) science and research information includes descriptions of our strategies, our research programmes and how we manage them. GALILEO is the European Union's global navigation satellite system. It will provide a accurate, guaranteed global positioning service. DfT leads on UK policy as historically the programme, within the EC, came under the Directorate for Transport and Energy (DG TREN) - primarily because GNSS has potential uses in all transport modes.
