Listed aviation security service providers

The Secretary of State is preparing to exercise his authority in accordance with Section 20A of the Aviation Security Act 1982 (amended by section 85 of the Anti-terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001). This enables him to make Regulations for the purpose of maintaining a list of approved providers of UK aviation security services. The Regulations are not yet in force. When they are introduced, they will ensure that only approved providers can be contracted by Directed Parties to provide aviation security services. The Secretary of State will require security providers to complete an application form should they wish to become approved providers under the statutory scheme.

Consultation on the process has been completed and comments from Security Providers and Directed parties have been considered. We have incorporated these comments, where appropriate, and have amended the application form and guidance notes accordingly.

At first this will be a non statutory scheme as we wish to ensure that the regime is fit for purpose before making it a statutory scheme via Regulations. We anticipate that the Regulations will come into force later this year if we are satisfied that the scheme satisfactorily achieves our aims.

From March 2006 the DfT is inviting companies and partnerships providing aviation security to apply to be listed. The Application Form is available on this website. Please refer to the Guidance Notes and Frequently Asked Questions when completing the form.
