Days Out app helps you plan summer outings

  • Published: Friday, 8 April 2011

English Heritage has released a great new free app for iPhone and Android phones, bringing you ideas for days out across England. Whether you fancy a castle, an English garden or a magical ruin, this handy tool can help you on your way to a great day out.

English Heritage Days Out app

Simple and easy to use, the app lets you search for properties near you, or alphabetically. You can also find out where is good to take the kids, or the dog, which properties have cafes, and which are wheelchair accessible.

Included on the app is basic information on all 380 English Heritage properties, 260 of which are free to visit. Members can access even the 120 properties that need staff onsite to maintain them, at no further charge. Using the app, you can buy a membership en route so that by the time you arrive, it is ready to use.

To find the app, search for 'Days Out' on your smartphone.

Features of the app

If you’re on the move you can easily find your nearest property on a map, check the opening times and plan your route. Included on the app are:

  • events listings
  • opening times, prices, and directions for each property
  • picture galleries
  • tips for when you arrive
  • scalable maps
  • favourites - build your own list
  • easy ways to share with your friends, that will help you plan a trip using social media

If you do not have a smartphone, it is easy to plan an English Heritage visit using their website. Just follow the link below.
