Research

Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) are the only UK-wide organisations licensed by Government to gather robust and reliable sectoral intelligence, which is a vital part of the skills and workforce planning and development process.

The research they gather, Labour Market Intelligence (LMI), provides a national profile of skills and market trends, and gives confidence to make informed planning decisions.

SSCs produce annual assessments of the current anticipated skills needs in the UK (Sector Skills Assessments), as well as in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Details of past and current nation-specific research projects can be found by clicking on the nation below.

Sector Skills Assessments:

SSCs produce annual Sector Skills Assessment reports for both the individual nations and across the UK. The reports are produced using the framework contained in the Common LMI Framework guidance issued by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES).

The Common LMI Framework allows SSCs to produce Sector Skills Assessment reports with a common structure but populated with their own sector-specific knowledge and intelligence.

The Sector Skills Assessments can be downloaded here - Sector Skills Assessments
