Best Practice Case Studies

Freely downloadable examples of best practice from CTC's Benchmarking projects

Tranport for London February 2002In addition to the benefits to participating authorities, there are outputs from the project that are of value to a far wider audience, notably other local authorities, central government and local cycle campaigners.

This section of the site gives access to the examples of best practice identified by the participating Local Authorities through a process of Peer Review during the initial UK-wide project (2000 to 2003) and the DfT / Cycling England funded regional projects (2004 to 2005). Examples from the Transport for London funded project in the capital (2007 to 2008) are currently being added.

A selection of these examples are also available in the Examples of Best Practice (pdf - 330kb) leaflet, published in October 2002 (should you have any problems with this page please email Nigel Williams).

Case Studies are indexed under the 12 Headline Criteria below. Each includes a brief description of the initiative, including a contact point for further information, and the assessment of the group using the following key:
BENCHMARK offering an example of best practice, or a
NEAR BENCHMARK which could be developed to be a benchmark.
