RFA statement on addendum to RTFO consultation

13 Nov 2008

This morning (13/11/08) the Department for Transport announced the publication of an addendum to their consultation on proposed amendments to the RTFO. This addendum covers proposals for amending the RTFO to rectify a discrepancy recently identified in the Order.

The Agency is working to the law and is revising its instructions to suppliers for the year 2008/9 accordingly.

We understand that the Department currently intends for the legal framework to be revised to enable the Obligation to operate as intended from April 2009.

CEO Nick Goodall commented, ‘We have been encouraged by the way the industry has embraced the opportunity to report the data that allows us to assess the sustainability and carbon impacts of using biofuels. The Agency will continue to work with the industry and stakeholders to ensure that the highest standards for sustainability and carbon savings for renewable transport fuels are achieved.'

The UK is in the vanguard of biofuel carbon and sustainability reporting, and the Agency is currently advising several Governments on best practice.

Enquiries about the addendum should be made to the Department for Transport. If you have questions about the RFA's revised reporting requirements, please contact David Calderbank on 0207 944 8496. Other enquiries to the RFA should be addressed to Chris Malins on 0207 944 8454.
