Business Link Continues To Support Yorkshire Companies

17/02/2011

CUSTOMERS GAIN THE ADVANTAGE BY USING BUSINESS LINK YORKSHIRE

Rising demand shows customers are keen to make the most of Business Link Yorkshire before 25 November 2011 – when the regional service will be replaced by new national arrangements.

A number of the service’s free business events have been oversubscribed prompting it to repeat particular events covering sales, marketing and online business development. Simultaneously, calls to the Business Link Yorkshire customer information centre peaked on one day in January at the highest level since summer 2010, with especially strong interest from people looking to start no cost/low-cost businesses from home.

There was further enthusiasm from new visitors to Business Link Yorkshire’s improved website. It offers more distinct information for pre start and trading business customers as well as stronger linkages to national site content. To cater for increasing traffic from mobile phones, there is also a new website option giving full screen access from smartphones (visit businesslinkyorkshire.co.uk)

Chief Executive Helen West said the current economic climate and recent VAT increase had put many businesses under pressure, often relating to cash flow and debt management. She encouraged anyone wanting help to contact Business Link Yorkshire directly on
08456 048 048.

Helen said, “The past year has been extremely difficult for a great number of businesses, in some sectors more than others, and we want to spread the message that, despite a long period of uncertainty, Business Link Yorkshire services are still very much available. The customer information centre is available to provide information and access to support on a full range of issues. We have an extensive events programme, adviser teams offering face to face support for established businesses and a full range of pre-start and start-up workshops delivered by our Enterprise Facilitators across the region.“

Due to budgetary constraints the services available from April 2011 will be on a much reduced scale. However, the more streamlined service will ensure that businesses and start ups across the region have access to support until the new national arrangements come into place. (See Notes to Editors for more detail).

Helen added that Business Link Yorkshire would continue to work closely with partners and intermediaries including local authorities, membership organisations, banks and others, ensuring the service addressed local priorities and that there was an effective transition to new arrangements.
