Federation Schools
Anne Lakey, Chief Executive of the Durham Federation, explains how the Federation evolved and how two secondary schools within an ex-mining community are able to inspire 11-16 year olds .
Working within a fairly deprived area, Lakey feels that raising standards beyond student expectation and following the Every Child Matters agenda are key to the success of the Federation, with both secondary schools achieving outstanding Ofsted reports. FILMCLUB 2008 - 22 July, 2008
Inspired by the idea that film can broaden the mind in extraordinary and unexpected ways, FILMCLUB, an after-school club giving children free weekly access to thousands of classic and popular films, is to be launched across the UK, building to 7000 films over the next three years. TeacherNet went to the launch to find out more and talked to the founders of FILMCLUB and supporting celebrities including actors Emma Thompson and Thandie Newton, to name but a few. - GirlsActive featuring Dame Kelly Holmes-21 December, 2007. Tanya Irvine, partnership development manager, central school sport Partnership, works with students to implement changes within their school that will encourage their peers to get more active.
- Black History Month 2007. Maggie Spence, Inclusion Manager, and teacher Jasmin Williams gave TeacherNet an overview of what they have organised this years Black History Month. Ten-year-old student Destiny, who participated in an Islington Borough Black History Month workshop, talks about her experience and how she benefited.
- Post -16 education and training webcast -21 August, 2007 at 3:00pm. Education journalist Mike Baker discussed the future of post-16 education and training with John Stone from the Learning and Skills Network, focusing on why the Leitch report is so crucial to reform and how schools and colleges will respond.
- Exploding the exclusion myth webcast —

- PSHE hotseat: On 5 December 2006 at 3pm, John Lloyd — Adviser for Citizenship Education and member of the PSHE working group — answered your questions about PSHE organisation and management.
