Following the success of Marketplace Nottingham we held a similar event on 1 July 2010 at The City Rooms Leicester.  More information about this soon.

Marketplace Nottingham November 2009

Sir Gus O'Donnell with HMRC Fast Streamet, Matthew SquiresMore than 150 civil servants from across Nottingham got together at a Civil Service East Midlands marketplace event at the Nottingham Magistrates Court.

Around 30 exhibitors took stands as the event representing Departments as diverse as UK Trade and Investment, the UK Border Agency and the Civil Service Sports Council.

Head of the Civil Service Sir Gus O’Donnell opened the event, thanking those present for their work, before browsing round the exhibits.

Visitors to the event got to learn about the history of the civil service, have a go at the civil service entrance exam from 1855 and drop into sessions tackling topics such as how to manage your career, making the most of your money and a session on the vacancy offer from a representative from the West Midlands pilot.

Comments from visitors included:

“A great opportunity to get wider understanding of Depts.and agencies in EM and potential opportunities,”

“Excellent to see what’s out there.  Very well organised.  Thank you!”

“An excellent mix of stands with knowledgeable staff and presentations”

The marketplace idea is likely to be rolled out to other parts of the region to spread the message about Civil Service East Midlands.
