JNCC Privacy Policy

We want to protect the privacy of visitors to our website and that of the people who supply us with wildlife data. Please read the following policy; it will help you to understand how we use your personal data. We may change our privacy policy at any time without giving you notice, so please check it each time you visit this website.

 

Whenever you give us personal data, you are consenting to its collection and use in accordance with this privacy policy.

 

What personal data do we collect?

 

Website Users: We automatically collect data about visitors to our website (for example on browsing patterns). We log your Internet Protocol (IP) address in order to receive and send information from and to you over the Internet. In addition when using certain download facilities available through the website, name and organisation level information is requested.

 

Data Providers: When you provide us with data or a dataset we may ask you for the name of an individual to act as our primary point of contact, their telephone number and email address.

 

Cookies

 

A Cookie is a small piece of data or message that is sent from a web server to your browser and is stored on your hard drive. A Cookie can't read data off your hard disk or read Cookie files created by other sites. Cookies do not damage your system. You can reset your browser so as to refuse any Cookie or to alert you to when a Cookie is being sent. We do not use cookies for collecting user information.  Auto-generated 'session' cookies are used to maintain state from one page request to another, but these will expire 20 minutes after your last page request and do not provide or hold any user identifiable information.

 

How do we use your personal data?

 

Website Users: Usage logs are used to monitor use of the JNCC website to help inform its future development, and are used only in an anonymous form; no individual is identified. Where your name / organisation details are requested (when using the data download facilities) this is held only to notify you of any major issues with the data downloaded.

 

Whenever and wherever we collect, process or use personal data, we take steps to ensure that it is treated securely and in accordance with our privacy policy.

 

Data Providers: We use your personal details to maintain a contact to the owner of the data should any issues or queries arise with regard to the data at a later date. In addition your name may be associated with any records when these are disseminated either through the JNCC website or other publication routes.

 

To whom might we disclose your personal data?

 

Except as set out above, we will not disclose your personal information unless we are obliged to do so or allowed to do so by law. In particular we will not sell, distribute or lend your personal information to third parties, unless we have your permission or are required to do so by law.
