Legislation

Welsh Assembly Government

Legislation

Legislation is a crucial tool for implementing policy in Wales.

The Government of Wales Act 2006 enabled the Welsh Assembly Government to bring forward its own programme of legislation for 2010- March 2011. This legislative programme is made up of:

  • Assembly Measures
  • Legislative Competence Orders.

We also have the following additional legislative vehicles enabling us to take forward policies:

  • Subordinate Legislation
  • Transfer of Functions Orders
  • UK Parliamentary Bills.

Legislation put forward by the Welsh Assembly Government is subject to scrutiny and approval by the National Assembly for Wales. The National Assembly will in the future be able to create Assembly Acts.
