NHS Wales - About Us
Introduction
NHS Wales is the publically funded National Health Service of Wales providing healthcare to some 3 million people who live in the country. The NHS has a key principle which is that good healthcare should be available to all, regardless of wealth.NHS Wales provides services ranging from smoking cessation, antenatal screening, and routine treatments for coughs and colds to open heart surgery, accident and emergency treatment and end-of-life care.
The NHS in Wales is the responsibility of the devolved Welsh Assembly Government.
Health Policy
The strategy encapsulates the government’s vision of transforming the NHS “from the national illness service it currently is into a truly national health service”. To achieve this, the strategy outlines the kind of health and social care services we can expect by 2015 and provides the strategies to achieve this. This is underpinned by three aims:
- Lifelong health
- Fast, safe and effective services
- World class care
