General election 2010

Polling card

Guidance and information on the general election for candidates, returning officers, electoral administrators and the public.

The factual background briefing provides general information about the UK electoral system, parliamentary elections and the 2010 election.

The returning officers' charges order specifies the amounts available to returning officers in each constituency for parliamentary elections in Great Britain. Guidance notes explain how the figures were arrived at and how returning officers can claim expenses at the election. Accounts regulations specify the time, form and manner in which they must submit their accounts.

We have also published advice and recommendations to all candidates on declaring their employment and other interests.
