Photo of Sir John Brigstocke KCB

The Ombudsman has been appointed by the Queen, on the recommendation of the Lord Chancellor, for an initial five year term which expires on 24 January 2011.

The inaugural Ombudsman, Sir John Brigstocke KCB, is a former Second Sea Lord and Commander-in-Chief Naval Home Command.  During his four years on the Admiralty Board, he acted as an Admiralty Board Complaints Adjudicator. For just over two years he was the senior adjudicator, with responsibility for both policy and the delivery of the complaints service.

His other naval appointments included Captain of the Royal Naval College at Dartmouth, Captain of HMS Ark Royal and Commander of the UK Task Group. He is currently a Trustee of the Nuffield Trust for the Forces of the Crown.
