Important: From 16th November 2009 the definition of A Registered Medical Practitioner changes. From that date it means a medical practitioner holding a licence to practice and not a medical practitioner registered with the General Medical Council (GMC). Any report prepared on or after 16th November 2009 and relied upon in support of an application for a Gender Recognition Certificate must be produced by a doctor with a licence to practice from the GMC. Not all doctors are now required to hold a GMC licence to practice.
