Volunteering England's Student Volunteering Week 2011 is taking place 21 – 27 February. School Governors' One-Stop Shop Chief Exectutive, Steve Acklam, has contibuted to the launch by provided his perspective on the value of volunteering in local communitirs, particularly focussing on the personal development opportunities it has to offer.
Don’t let your school miss out on the opportunity to participate in Soroptimist International Virtual One’s BeePlus project 2011. We need 200 Junior schools to take part in this phase of our campaign to help save the honeybee through the education of children. You will also be helping to support the long term aim of a sustainable future for unemployed women in remote areas of the world.

In the wake of comments from Michael Gove MP, the Secretary of State for Education, in which he stated that the government will be “making governance simpler and financial management less onerous” the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and SGOSS (the School Governors’ One-Stop Shop) have formed a partnership designed to support governors as they work with the head and his senior team to transform schools across the UK.
Volunteering England are hosting a series of essential regional one-day conferences for everyone who wants to be at the forefront of volunteering developments and help pave the way to the ‘Big Society’.
Hit Your Target- In November SGOSS held Hit Your Target, a unique event for governors and teachers from across London. Schools from across the city were represented as those attending heard from guest speakers and debated the joys and challenges of school governance. In addition to learning from other governors and teachers, guests were able to hear how SGOSS could help fill their governor vacancies with skilled volunteers.

The School Governors' One-Stop Shop & Harlequins RUFC U13 Cup... On the 2nd of October under the watchful eye of Harlequins Academy guru Jim Evans and Stoop favourite George Robson, SGOSS in conjunction with the Harlequins Community Team hosted the 4th Annual SGOSS Under 13 Cup.

Case Studies

Since 1999, SGOSS has enabled people to become school governors, worked with companies to enhance their CSR programmes, assisted Local Authorities with governor recruitment and helped schools fill vacancies on their governing bodies. On this page you will find some testimonies from these groups.

Volunteers

SGOSS has helped find placements for thousands of school governor volunteers, who have taken the opportunity to get more involved in their community, add value to local education and develop their skills along the way.

SGOSS has worked hard to develop powerful and sustainable relationships with Local Authorities throughout England. If you are a Local Authority that is not currently working closely with SGOSS and would like to see how we might be able to help, please view the case studies. Even if we are already working together, there may be an opportunity to do more.
