The Special Metals Forum (SMF) associated with NAMTEC. The forum brings together the strengths, unique resources and capabilities of the special metals supply chain; producers, fabricators, component manufacturers and OEM’s.
Surface Engineering Group
Based at the National Metals Technology Centre in Rotherham. It offers a range of key support services to industry including a targeted R&D programme with the aim of increasing the profitability of regional companies.
Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP)
The AMP is a world-class manufacturing technology park providing advanced solutions for advantage in industry. Technologies on the AMP focus on materials and structures, covering metallic and composite materials. Technology developed on the AMP is already being utilised in leading edge projects, such as within Formula One and the next generation of military and commercial aircraft, including the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (NAMRC)
Sheffield is home to the UK’s only nuclear R&D facility which has been set up to pioneer and be the main focal point of manufacturing best practice for the Low Carbon industry. Over the next 25 years, the centre will contribute to the expected creation of over 4,500 engineering jobs and the expected £1bn per year contribution to UK companies by the new civil nuclear industry.
Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC)
The AMRC is a multi million pound partnership between Sheffield University and Boeing, the world’s biggest aerospace company. The centre is internationally respected for developing innovative and pioneering technology solutions for advanced materials forming. http://www.amrc.co.uk
Rolls Royce Factory of the future
An extension of the AMRC, the Rolls Royce Factory of the future based at the Advance Manufacturing Park is home to state of the art equipment and full scale production capabilities that regional companies can use to trial new processes and techniques before making heavy financial investments.
TWI Technology Centre
TWI Technology Centre (Yorkshire) runs a range of training courses and enables its customers to access TWI’s technologies and develop novel solutions through Technology Transfer programmes.
The Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS)
The MAS provides practical expertise to manufacturing businesses across the region. The service offers support in areas such as diagnostics, increasing productivity levels and raising operational efficiency.
British Stainless Steel Association
Located in Sheffield, the British Stainless Steel Association (BSSA) exists to promote and develop the manufacture and use of stainless steel across the UK. They provide marketing support, technical advice, information, training and education in all aspects of stainless steel.
Composites and Advanced Materials Technology Centre (CAMTeC)
CAMTeC are strong in the area of process development and are part of the National Composites Network. They’re a Centre of Expertise in drilling and machining and joining composite materials.

A world leading centre for R&D and technical support for the regions metal industry. The facilities has unrivalled capabilities in casting design, materials development and selection, specifications, manufacturing technologies, quality control, testing and performance.
