In 2010 the World Bank ranked the UK as the best place in Europe for doing business. The Yorkshire and Humber region is located right in the centre of the United Kingdom, making it the perfect location for businesses looking to expand or relocate.
The region has a strong and diverse economy of over £89bn, larger than many European countries including Luxembourg, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Slovenia. It has become the UK’s centre for renewable technologies, the world’s number 1 offshore wind market and the UK Government designated Yorkshire and Humber as the nation’s Low Carbon Economic Area (LCEA) for Carbon Capture and Storage.
Excellent transport links, combined with multi-million pound investment in high speed next generation broadband and industry led innovation networks has made Yorkshire and Humber one of the top four locations in the UK for foreign direct investment, attracting an average of 12 investments a month during 2009/10.
The region's academic excellence and industry expertise is helping global companies from Smith & Nephew to BAE Systems to exploit new technologies and market opportunities, establish Yorkshire & Humber as the leading European centre for innovation in some of the world's fastest growing industry sectors.
This includes healthcare technologies to advanced engineering and materials; cutting edge clean energy solutions to electronics; food processing to e-learning, over 1,900 foreign owned companies have made Yorkshire & Humber their home.
